'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Families of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await News After Alpine Blaze

The relatives of young people missing after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an excruciating wait for confirmed information and requesting clues about their children publicly.

The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed video depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Officials have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the fire, which claimed the lives of 40 people and wounded another 119. Authorities noted on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts continuing to identify the other six.

In the meantime, loved ones have been taking to online platforms to plead for clues about their friends who were in attendance that night.

Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing

The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his family.

The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.

"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she stated.

She explained that some of his friends had been discovered with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through hell."

The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its citizens have not been located.

Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Italy but now living in the UAE.

The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who represented passion and true sportsmanship."

His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.

Other Cases

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His parent said that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and found himself at the venue.

"A close friend told me they fled after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.

Officials from her country of origin say they are closely watching the situation.
